Joseph Haydn is often called the "Father of the Symphony," and was a very famous composer even when he was still alive, his popularity far surpassing that of Mozart. So popular was he that publishers at the time published scores of many pieces that were falsely labeled as having been composed by him. Oboe Concerto in C Major found on this album is one of the pieces that were long attributed to Haydn.
Playing the Haydn pieces and the pieces once attributed to him is Wiener Mozartisten, the ensemble conducted by Hans Peter Ochsenhofer of the Vienna String Quartet, which is comprised mainly of elite members of the Vienna Philharmonic. These orthodox performances keep the Vienna tradition and evince the grace and style of Haydn. Thanks to the high quality music data, it feels like they are right in front of you as if you were at Studio Baumgarten in Vienna when the pieces were being recorded.
